Saint Thomas More High School (9-12)

Saint Thomas More High School exists to form hearts and minds in the Truth. Serving students and families throughout the Black Hills, we provide an education rooted in Jesus Christ and the rich intellectual tradition of the Catholic Church. Through a rigorous, fully-accredited curriculum, exceptional extracurricular activities, and a virtue-based formation program, we educate confident and faithful students who are well-prepared for college, adulthood, and eternity.

Academics

We believe that faith and reason are two distinct yet complementary ways of understanding reality. This conviction shapes everything we teach. Students learn to recognize the unity of truth across every discipline—from literature and history to mathematics and science. At the heart of our curriculum is a commitment to helping students understand the beauty of our Christian heritage and the great texts of the Western tradition. Through dual-enrollment opportunities with local universities and Advanced Placement offerings, students can also receive college credits while attending classes in our school building.

Activities

Our commitment to excellence extends beyond academics. Athletics, performing arts, clubs, and other extracurricular activities provide students with opportunities to discover and develop their God-given talents while cultivating discipline, leadership, perseverance, teamwork, and friendship. With more than 90% of our students participating in at least one extracurricular activity, engagement is a defining characteristic of the St. Thomas More community. We believe these experiences play an essential role in forming confident, well-rounded young men and women prepared to use their gifts in service to others.

Active Discipleship

Most importantly, the education that our students receive is directed toward them becoming men and women of faith, wisdom, and service. Students learn about Christ and His Church during their theology classes, and they are given opportunities to fall more deeply in love with Him during scheduled times of adoration, prayer, class retreats, and Mass. An optional daily Mass is also offered before every school day for all students, staff, and families who wish to attend. Through our service program, students are also required to grow in charity as they engage with and give back to their local communities.

Our school is far more than a place where students simply acquire information. It is a community, open to all, where kids are known, loved, and strengthened to be their very best. We desire that every graduate leaves Saint Thomas More High School with a well-formed intellect, a deep love for Jesus Christ, the habits of Christian virtue, and the confidence to serve God and others with wisdom, courage, and joy.
